C) Confession

It is imperative that we regularly confess our sins. Now I am not saying that we need to go to someone to confess. We have a High Priest in Jesus who lives always to make intercession for us. It is written that A1JO 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.@ So we must confess in prayer to God that we have sinned. When we acknowledge our sins, we judge ourselves. The scripture says, A1CO 11:31 But if we judged ourselves rightly, we should not be judged.@ We don=t need to be judged because we have already acknowledged the wrong in what we have done. Not only are we not in need of judgment but any unrighteousness that proceeded from the wrong that we did is also cleansed from us. This forgiveness of sins and cleansing of unrighteousness removes us from the hands of satan in relationship to these individual sins. Satan is denied the ground that he would have otherwise gained. While satan may not be completely removed from this area in our life we can at lest keep him from gaining new ground.

There may be a time when we need to confess to a person. This is always a very sensitive proposition because we live in a time of very loose morals even among the AChurch leadership@. I suggest that if this is necessary, you chose a person who you respect as spiritual and of good moral character. It need not be the local church authority. It should be made clear that your time together be held in strict confidence. Confess your part and do not implicate anyone else. That would be defiling to the person whom your speaking with as well as it being gossip. Ask the person to pray a prayer of freedom breaking the power of sin over you.
